Our Fishing Story
Get to know owner and captain David Bayes
Since 2003
DeepStrike Sportfishing’s owner is lifelong Alaskan resident David Bayes. Utilizing his degree in Biological Sciences and passion for fishing, David has carved out a strong niche amongst the competitive Homer fishing fleet and is well-known as a top fisherman.
Leadership
Captain David has served as president of both the Alaska Charter and Homer Charter Associations. He takes great pride in his business and the services he provides while contributing his knowledge to the industry at large.
DIY Rental Boats
In 2010 he also opened the doors to Bayes Boat Rental, which rents self-guided vessels out of the Homer Harbor. This provides a much needed option for custom trips.
Mentoring Captains
Along the way, Captain David has trained and befriended numerous first mates and deckhands. The dynamic he creates both on shore and onboard is always positive, productive, and fun.
Notably, he hired a team of trailblazing women who operated the Irish Mist as an all female crew. Starting in 2025, they take over on the Legacy.
Derby Prizes
Awards have been claimed too, including a couple Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby grand prize winners. Clients can expect to take home big fish, bigger stories, and memories to last a lifetime.
